We just found it a pain to find a nanny in Bangkok by posting on Facebook and hope someone would be helping their nanny find a job at the exact same time. There are so many nannies in Bangkok looking for work, and no easy way to find them. For the nannies, if their current boss doesn’t help them, they have very few options to find a new expat family to work with.
It is completely free for nannies to register. We will not ever take any money from them in any way.
For families, the cost is 20 USD or about 750 baht. The price is pretty much made up and we will adjust it as it makes sense to serve two purposes: To stop people from joining the site to spam/collect information from nannies, and to recoup the investment in/ongoing costs of the site. We are also paying some helpers from Myanmar to assist nannies in adding their information to the site, as many of them are not very familiar with using browser-based forms.
If we actually make money on top of that, fund raised by the site will be donated to organizations focused on helping domestic workers.
Having a nanny is an EXTREMELY personal decision. It is subjective and what you might love about your nanny, another person might truly dislike. Some people want an active nanny who throws their kids in the air and play fights with them on the ground. Others will prefer a nanny who is so gentle and quiet, you almost don’t notice them in your home.
Even some skills we think of as being objective are really not. Is she a good cook? Well, compared to who? Or does she speak English well? Unless you are giving the nannies a formal exam, that is a subjective measure as well.
It is better to have a talk with them yourself, meet them in person, have them meet your kids.
I interviewed 20 nannies and the first one I hired ended up being a terrible fit for our family. But my second choice ended up being the best nanny in the world… for us.
That depends on a few factors but, like for most people, the biggest factor is how much the nanny’s last job was paying, as that is now how much income she is used to living on.
I have found that many nanny salaries are within just a few thousand baht of each other. If 2-3k baht is a couple of dinners out for your family, it may be worth paying a bit more for the nanny who you have the best feeling about, rather than the one asking the lowest salary.
Sure. Just send an email to help@thailandnanny.com and let us know what you want to do. We will figure it out 🙂
No. This is not an agency. We do reject profile submissions that don’t look legitimate though.
Sorry, but not at the moment. If we let you contact them through the site, we bring privacy and liability issues to another level. We don’t love having the nannies post their contact info, but it is the simplest way to put you in touch with them. If the site ends up being really popular and we can pay for enterprise level communications security, we will add that as a feature.
